Vitamins for Koi
I read recently in the Internet forum that Vitamins is good for fish, just like it is for human body.
The question now is what kind of vitamins is a good for koi and how to prepare them?
My wife has been taking a type of food supplemet called "Barley Green" for few years now. It has help her to maintain healthy body and overcome bowel problem. So it came naturally to my mind that I should try this nutritious supplememt on my koi.
Another thing that triggers me to try Barley Green is the colour of this natural product. I have been keeping my koi indoor all this while and find that it is difficult to maintain the Hi (Red) colour. This is due to the lack of sunlight and in turn leads to lack of algae which is a form of natural colour enhancer food for Koi.
Barley Green with it's natural Beta carotene, I believe will be able to maintain the Hi (Red) of my koi in indoor condition.
What is Barley Green?
Barley grass is one of the green grasses - the only vegetation on the earth that can supply sole nutritional support from birth to old age. The true beauty of barley is found in the leaves; the young green shoots of power that form before the grain. The young leaves have a tremendous ability to absorb nutrients from the soil. When barley leaves are 12-14 inches high, they contain all the vitamins, minerals, and proteins necessary for the human diet, plus chlorophyll. These necessities are easily assimilated throughout the digestive tract, giving our bodies instant access to vital nutrients.
BarleyGreen Premium contains enzymes, minerals and many vitamins including Vitamin A, Vitamin B, and Vitamin C. BarleyGreen Premium has the perfect balance of amino acids, essential fatty acids, bioflavonoids, carotenoids and chlorophyl supplied in the perfect balance as nature intended.

How to prepare koi food with Barley Green?
It's simple to prepare. That's another good point about using this Food supplement for your koi.
I had taken down the steps and posted the pictures on the right hand side of this page to demonstrate to those of you who might be interested to try.
First, scoop 1/3 tea spoon of Barley Green powder from the bottle. (This amount is sufficient for 24 table spoons of koi pellets) and pour it into an empty bottle. (Glass bottle is recommended)
Next, pour about 30~40ml of clean water into the bottle. I use filtered water, you can use mineral water or boiled water.
Shake the mixtures vigorously until the powder is completely dissolved into the water.
Next step is to prepare an empty tray with a flat base. Scoop the amount of koi pellets you normally feed your koi into the tray.
Then, pour the Barley Green mixture onto the koi pellets. Shake the tray from left to right to make sure all the pellets are in contact with the solution.
Leave the tray for 2 to 3 minutes to allow the solution to be absorbed into the pellets.
You are done now and ready the feed the pellets to your koi by scooping them using a spoon.
What are the benefits and effects on Koi?
After 1 week of feeding, I observed that the koi has much better appetite. Even the koi that is more shy, comes up to the surface to grab for food. Due to their good appetite, their growth rate also improves.
Another thing I observed is that even though they eat alot, their stomach does not sag. That means there is less chance of developing into pot belly and they will be able to maintain better body shape and confirmation.
Another point I am still observing is the colour. They seems to be able to maintain the colour better, but I need more time to observe the effect on colour.
Overall, I am quite satisfied with the result and will continue to feed them using this method.
The cost of one bottle of Barley Green is about S$70 which will last me more than 6 months. This calculated to be less than S$3 per week.
If you take together with your koi, I mean you take take the Barley Green drink not the pellets :) , it will last probably around 3 months.
You can purchase them from the Internet through this link - ;which cost about US$40 (excluding shipping I think).
You can also purchase through me by sending me an email or sms.
Hope you and your koi will benefit from it. Cheers!!
